Petronia City is the vision of CEO and Founder of Wonda World Estates, Nana Kwame Bediako. Designed around the ideology of ‘work, live, learn and play’, Petronia City is a self-sustaining, master-planned, integrated city. It will attract, retain and support businesses, human capital needs and elevate Ghana’s Western Region into a world-class business location, tourist destination and home.
The city’s 2000-acre development will include residential, office, industrial, commercial, leisure and hospitality space. It will be the first at the heart of the Western Region of Ghana – home to the country’s rapidly growing oil, gas and mining industries. This incredible project began in October 2013 and will be realised in three key phases over the next 10 years.
As with every significant project, our aim is to ensure that this city caters to everyone’s needs – investors, developers and people working and living in the city. The first phase is to create a foundation to build upon. As a fully functioning 70-acre ‘prototype’, the city will be self-sufficient, comprising residential, commercial, retail and recreational facilities that will accommodate 300 residents.
Development will begin with the construction of infrastructure including water and sewerage systems, a master-planned road network, reliable power and ICT infrastructure.
The facilities for Phase 1 will include 25 Executive Villas, 140 Apartments, 4 Office Blocks, a Recreational Centre and Mini Shopping Mall, Schools and Clinics, a world class transportation hub, a 4-Star Hotel and the revolutionary ‘Freezone’ enclave.
The estimated completion of this phase is 2016.
Construction for Phase 2 will commence halfway through the construction of Phase 1, beginning with the development of the ‘Energy City’.
Energy City will be the main business district and nerve center of Petronia. It will create a community of industry leaders in oil, gas, mining, financial and government sectors.
This will be followed by the development of a Golf Village – a Golf community with an 18-hole, world class golf course and institutions, paving the way to further retail and commercial opportunities, housing development and luxury accommodation.
The final key development of this phase is an Oil & Gas University, the first education centre in Africa to support the vitality of the continent’s natural resources.
This final phase will expand on the city’s success and build on residential, commercial and recreational facilities, civic institutions and landscaping.
Highlights of this additional development will include civic developments, mixed income housing, a light & heavy industrial zone, an Auto Racing Circuit and Polo Grounds.
The completed city which will accommodate approximately 30,000 residents and, provide about 40,000 new jobs would represent one of the most aspirational and prosperous developments in African history and also aim to redress the balance of wealth and benefits among Africa’s major cities.
